This conversation with Aimee Byrd was personal and powerful for me. Even though it has not been easy, I am so grateful to Aimee for sharing her story of the abuse she suffered in the church circles she was a part of. Her newest book, Saving Face, is a beautiful reflection not only on what has happened to her, but how she is processing and healing from those traumatic events and seeing herself, God, and others more clearly on the other side. Unfortunately, her experiences are incredibly common in Christian communities, and the wisdom she shares is another tool to help those of us with similar experiences navigate our own pain, and also a gentle, but needed, reminder that we are not alone in our hurt.
