Reading Caryn Reeder‘s new book had me feeling mad, relieved, curious, and hopeful. She explores one of my all-time favorite stories in the Gospels – The Samaritan Woman in John 4. Caryn reminds readers and listeners of the classic interpretation of the story, which has remained much the same throughout history, and examines how it has been used to shame women throughout the centuries. Then she takes a closer look at the text to provide a more historically sound interpretation that redeems not only the Samaritan woman, but all women who have been subjected to unfair and abusive treatment inspired by the classic interpretation. There’s so much here and I’m so grateful to Caryn for this conversation!
