Lamar Hardwick, aka The Autism Pastor, is the lead pastor of a congregation in the Atlanta, GA area. At the age of 36, after years of struggling with symptoms, Lamar was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. His new book, Disability and the Church: A Vision for Diversity and Inclusion, is a call to the church to rethink and rediscover ministering with people with disabilities. This book and conversation with Lamar challenged my theology (in a good way!) and encouraged me to think differently about how I view diversity and inclusion in general, but also specifically regarding people within the disabled community. Lamar notes the church was born for inclusion, but we haven’t been living that way. He’s here to give us the imagination to inquire what could happen if we did.
