Ben Norquist and his co-author Brian Miller draw our attention to something we live in everyday, yet most of us hardly think about: place. In Every Somewhere Sacred and this conversation with Ben, we discuss how rootlessness, living everywhere and nowhere at the same time, affects our theology and ultimately how we live with one another and with God. Especially in the U.S., we have inherited a settler mindset from our founding that still impacts the narratives we believe about our surroundings and our general mentalities about he places we inhabit.
Highlights for me included the topics of suburbia, imagination, terminology, land stories and their relationships to discipleship and people, settlement of North America, tactics of settler colonialism, misshapen moral imaginations, Israel-Palestine, and the scriptural idea of pounding swords into plowshares as a metaphor for the weaponization of land stories.
