It’s hard to describe this amazing conversation with David Dault or the book it was centered around, for that matter, The Accessorized Bible. One of the concepts David brings out, as a professor and someone who thinks about faith and the bible, a lot, is that we often make the bible into something it isn’t. And, even though we may not dispute the bible is any of the things we talked about – a book, a platform, a community, an accessory – what we fill the blanks in with, matters. A book that started as an idea about bibles that were literally accessorized in various ways (how many of us still have pink leather engraved bibles from Mardel on our shelves?!) turned into a book about culture, politics, hermeneutics, love, and so much more.
Highlights in the conversation include mentions of The Jerk and Devil Wears Prada, Minecraft, lift kits on trucks, fan fic, ‘shipping, and Community.
