As soon as I saw Bekah McNeel had a new book coming out, I was lining up to talk with her (and I didn’t even know the subject, lol!). When I learned it was about suffering and our response to it, I was certain this was a conversation I’d want to have (that’s mostly because, as we talk about, Bekah and I are both those people you don’t want to be cornered with at a party, ha!). In all sincerity, the topics covered in this book are societally and individually relevant and Bekah encourages us to think more deeply and in more nuanced ways about them and to act faithfully as we do. This is Going to Hurt offers us a helpful framework for not only acknowledging the suffering we see around us, but for considering how we might interfere with the systems that perpetuate it and tend to those affected.
