This conversation had me feeling both excited and a bit nervous. Nijay Gupta, who is gracious in every way, has written a new book on the ministry of women in the early church and historically, this subject has been a sensitive one for me. Maybe like you, I was discipled in a tradition that held women to certain roles in the life of a faith community – she could teach kids or other ladies, but never men (she wasn’t even allowed to contribute to the building maintenance by mowing the lawn in one church I where I was a member). Needless to say, this can be a delicate topic, but this conversation with Nijay and his new book, Tell Her Story, are great places to start! If this question is one you’re still exploring, I invite you to pack your curiosity, listen with some friends, and host your own conversations.
