Timothy McMahan King is a deacon in the Episcopal church who has written on addiction as well as drug use and its historical relationship to spirituality. Hi newest book, What are Drugs For?, covers the latter and is the topic of our conversation in this episode. Tim explores humanity’s relationship with drugs and how that relationship has connected with our spirituality over the centuries in many different contexts, including Christianity. We use our theological imaginations quite a bit in this conversation to think outside of our current paradigms about drugs, ourselves, our bodies, and our ailments and how each of those relates to our faith through our sacred texts and our experiences.
