What a pleasure to have the chance to talk with Jenny McGee, the founder of Starfish Project! A few pieces from the jewelry collection at Starfish Project have found their way into my personal collection over the years (okay, I specifically picked them out and asked for them for Christmases, birthdays, etc.) and ever since I first heard of the organization, I have been grateful for their impact and their work. Specifically, as Jenny explains, the jewelry made and sold through Starfish Project is part of a larger business enterprise in which women, who have been working in brothels and seeking a way out, learn new skills and have the opportunity to further their education, giving them options many of them have never had before. Core to their work is survivor leadership, which emphasizes that each member of the team comes with their own gifts, talents, skills, and backgrounds, and contributes uniquely to the business. What beautiful work!
