Professor Dr. Greg Garrett of Baylor University has written a wonderful book on the prophet James Baldwin. For those who may not be familiar, James Baldwin was an author and civil rights leader who was born in New York and lived out his middle years and final days in Europe. While his life ended, his legacy lives on in his prophetic voice that still rings true all these decades later. Baldwin’s faith struggles were evident in his writings and while some may see that as a barrier, I find it an inviting comfort. The Gospel According to James Baldwin and our conversation about it focuses on the author’s beautiful teachings on love, both divine and human.
