Scott Erickson (known to many of us as Scott the Painter) helps bring the season a little closer to home with our conversation on his book, Honest Advent: Awakening to the Wonder of God-with-Us Then, Here, and Now. Scott is an artist, which encompasses a whole host of creative spheres in his work, and in these 25 readings he brings our heads and our hearts down to the reality of Jesus’ first coming. He opens up a window into the messiness of birth, the societal stigma, and what God’s humanness means for our own. I may have even gifted copies of this book to my close friends for Christmas – it is beautiful!
