Taylor Schumann is a survivor of gun violence and author of the book When Thoughts and Prayers Aren’t Enough: A Shooting Survivor’s Journey into the Realities of Gun Violence. Like many of us in the United States, Taylor grew up seeing gun ownership as an un-problematic part of American culture. In the church, some celebrate their nationalism and right to bear arms alongside their faith in God. But with rises in gun violence and mass shootings becoming more commonplace, it would do us all some good to pause and consider the roots of the problems we are recognizing. Taylor bravely shares her story of being shot in her workplace and the trauma that followed. She also opens up about the process she went through to learn more about gun violence in America and what can be done about it. Wherever you fall on this issue, I encourage you to listen to this conversation with open ears and grab a copy of her book. When we posture ourselves as learners, things have the chance to change for the better, starting with us.
