I had a total blast talking to James McGrath for this episode! His newest book, Beyond Deconstruction, hit so hard (in a good way) that I found myself recommending it less than 50 pages in! James is a biblical scholar and New Testament professor, and I’m not sure about you, but reading a book about deconstruction from a bible professor sure helped me feel a bit more….normal about my faith struggles. There were tons of great moments in this conversation, but some particular highlights for me are when we talked about how fundamentalism is fragile and how we are totally capable of turning the bible (or any belief system) itself into an idol.
