Phew! Hold on to your hats! We’ve got an incredible discussion for you today with Dr. Andrew Rillera, New Testament scholar. His newest book, Lamb of the Free, tackles not only the sacrifice of Jesus, but does so as part of the whole sacrificial system we see in the Bible. We start by naming a very common understanding of Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection, penal substitutionary atonement theory, talk about how that has been un-helpful (and in some ways harmful), and then explore other biblical ways of understanding what Jesus did these in acts. By no means do we hit everything in this conversation, but I do hope it brings up questions you might have already had or gives you new ones along with resources to explore them.
