Andrew Whitehead has researched and written extensively on Christian nationalism. His most recent book, American Idolatry, defines Christian nationalism and explains why it is so problematic. While he does have other academic resources on the topic, this text is directed toward us – the lay Christian in America (don’t worry – there are still plenty of end notes and references!). Becoming more educated on the effects of Christian nationalism in our communities can help us understand how we can combat them and why it matters that we do so. This is the book (and conversation) I would recommend to anyone who is looking for a place to start understanding this particular idol!
