John is bi-racial, the son of a Black father and a White mother he grew up not knowing anything about. For a man who has been reporting on race for decades (and by his own admission is often exhausted by it), this memoir is an amazing gift. Through this writing, John sheds light on difficult topics like race relations and mental illness, while fostering thoughts on forgiveness and faith.
