These last few weeks have been hard in the world. Catching up on international and local news reveals heartache at almost every turn. I’m praying as Jesus taught his disciples, asking for his kingdom to come and reign on this earth, but it’s hard to miss that things are not as they should be. So instead of finding ways to worship that promise to change my sad heart into a happy one, I’ve been embracing the sorrow. And you know what? It’s biblical. The Psalmists lamented regularly and wisdom literature is full of cries of complaint to God when his people are in the throes of tragedy. God is close to the brokenhearted and Jesus grieved with his friends. It’s time for us to dust off this practice and, as painful as it is, learn how to do the same.
